Sustainability

We try and do our bit for the environment here at WildLuing and are always learning and developing our site.

Encouraging Wildlife

· We have nest boxes on 50% of the sites buildings to encourage birds such as Nuthatch, Flycatcher and a variety of Tits to nest on site.
· We have planted several new trees to create a more sheltered wildlife habitat. The varieties include Hawthorn, Sloe, Plum and Cherry. These should produce fruit over time to create a food supply for the wildlife. Also across the island we have planted more than 100 acres of broadleaf trees to improve biodiversity and have started to rewild parts of the Island.
· We are in a Marine Protected Zone, so our waters have sustainable fishing guidelines.
· We are in the Argyll Hope Spot designation. These Hope Spots champion and promote the protection of valuable biodiversity and species such as the critically endangered Flapper Skate.
· We are building a bird hide on the water’s edge to promote birdwatching and observation of our birds such as Oystercatchers, Shags and Cormorants.
· We try to be sympathetic to nature on site with limited night lighting, including solar powered lights along the paths to promote dark skies.

Support Local

· We encourage slow tourism. Providing guests with ideas for sustainable days out such as hiking, birdwatching and visiting local businesses and eateries such as the Atlantic Centre on Luing which is at the heart of Cullipool and the Luing community.
· We try to signpost local producers and businesses to guests through our website, social media and by word of mouth.
· We try to promote local events happening on Luing and Seil to guests so they can support and attend them.
· We encourage sustainable travel including using the bus links and hiring bikes from Sunnybrae caravan site at South Cuan.
· We try to support local and national charities such as the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.

Responsible

· We make all our own granola, fruit compote and bread for our breakfast hampers. Also Scottish Tablet is made on the island for guests to enjoy.
· We produce our own Luing Beef, Venison, Lamb, hand dived Scallops and Oysters on the Island. Our seafood is sourced form local waters.
· Our firewood is responsibly sourced.
· We can cater for allergies and dietary requirements on hosted events.

Sustainable Environment

· In each WildSuite we provide refillable toiletries from The Highland Soap Company, based locally in Fort William. These are SLS free and organic.
· The WildSuites are made from Scottish building materials and artisan crafted. Including Larch sourced from Lochnell. These WildSuites were designed and made on the island by local Luing builders, along with family members Jack and Archie Cadzow. Our energy performance certificate is rating A with draft proofing and insulation to a high standard, including superior double and triple glazed windows and energy efficient appliances.
· We use eco-friendly cleaning products and provide recycling bins on site to encourage recycling. We have 100% recycled toilet roll and kitchen roll.

·We take part in regular beach cleans on Luing. In 2023 we worked with The Scottish Coastal Clean Up team to clear up large areas of coastline locally.
